Teaching Tips:
Encourage your child to never give up! Don’t forget when we work hard we honor Jesus and our treasure in heaven will be waiting for us!
Share a story with your child about a time you tried to do something that was much harder than you thought it would be but you never gave up. Maybe it was learning to play a sport, complete a school project, or care for a pet
Encourage your child to work hard in everything they do, school work, homework, keeping their room clean, being organized, being on time, obeying mom and dad
We help our children form work habits when we guide them and teach them. List chores for your child to do for the week and reward them when they complete them at the end of the week. Some chores could be: Set the table, help with meals, put dishes in sink, wash dishes, help with groceries, vacuum, sweep/mop, pick up trash, put dishes away, empty trash, water plants, help with yard work, load dishwasher, unload dishwasher, clean their room, make their bed, replenish toilet paper in the bathroom
Share with your child that when Jesus was a child he helped Joseph. Joseph was a carpenter. Talk about what a carpenter does, all the work involved. Joseph needed help and Jesus helped him.
Talk to your child about Pope Francis and the Missionary Oblates and how they carry on the work of Jesus every day, caring for the poor and the sick and helping others wherever help is needed.
Be sure to give your child positive reinforcement like a thank you and a smile and recognize when they complete tasks
Remember to focus on good conduct and not on bad behavior
Encourage your child to offer their hard work to Jesus out of love for Him and always pray and ask for strength even the work is hard
Print and review the work contract and have your child sign it and post it somewhere they can see it often
