We do everything out of love for JESUS even when it’s hard
Teaching Tips:
A child’s first lesson about loyalty begins at home, when a parent promises to keep them safe, take of care them when they are sick, is on time to pick them up when they say they will, that’s being loyal.
It’s important to show your child that they can count on you and to point it out to them. They can depend on you to pick them up from school, take them to their sports practice, and to be there to cheer for them at the game. Let your child know that you are there to support them and that’s being loyal.
Explain to your child that when we support each other we are being like Jesus and the apostles. The apostles supported Jesus, they loved him and they were there for him, even when things were hard.
Spending time together as a family unit is important to promote loyalty and creating a bond, like Jesus had with the apostles. Ways to spend time together can include having dinner together, attending church together, watching a movie, and attending each other’s special events.
We show loyalty when we do the things we say we will do such as say our prayers every day, doing what is right even when it’s hard, doing what our parents and teachers ask of us, setting a good example for others, being kind and giving those around us a smile and making sure those around us feel loved.
It’s important for your child to understand that loyalty does not involve bad choices, if a friend asks you to do something that is not a good choice for you it’s okay to say no, you can be a loyal friend without supporting bad choices.
Take some time as a family and develop a simple family slogan or a motto, maybe pick a verse from the bible. Post your family motto in a place where everyone in the family can see it. Take time to say your family motto before you start your day, drop off at practice or even before you start dinner.
